Helicopters and Plumbers

Thursday, May 26th, 2005

Our washing machine died last week. On saturday my brother ordered another one from Currys, they said they would take the old one away if it was disconnect so when we got home we attempt to do just that. Turns out the taps to turn the water off had got stuck open so we had to call a plumber. He goes to turn off the water and as soon as he touchs the tap it starts to leak. We need a new tap says he, so he goes outside to the stopcock, that has siezed up too.

So we had no water, unless we turned on the leaking mains tap and changed the dripdray every minute or so, until the water company came and fixed the stopcock. Of course it took two days to do that. The we got the plumber back in, the new washing machine installed and the world put to rights.

As for the helicopter, well the bloody police heli has been buzzing up and down for the last half hour. Makes you wonder who they are chasing, and if they will decide to hide in our house.

It’s less than three weeks until I fly now, in three weeks time I shall be in Australia. I was at the bank today, sorting out details re: travelers cheques and money. I’m not the greatest organiser in the world, hope I’m not forgetting anything. My excitment is really starting to build now. I’M GOING TO AUSTRALIA DAGNABIT! WOOOO!.

Where is Sperry?

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

I was poking around, looking for information on Petroden and what happened to others from Westwood Studios after it got canned by EA. This obviously led me on a search for Brett Sperry, the guy who was most important behind C&C. While looking I came across this old interview. I find it interesting as he talks about the fact that at one time he wanted to make Red Alert feature Nazi’s and be set during WW2. Apparently when he pitched it the idea was canned by the publishers. Now it seems every second game is a WW2 one. Time moves fast in the gaming industry. The whole interview is here.

The hunt for Sperry continues.

Even though I haven’t been to E3, and I haven’t seen any of the games, nor have any knowledge what so ever, that is no reason why I can’t do my own E3 awards, I mean every other site does! My catergories are however a little different.

    About time for an update.

Been finding life difficult again recently, who doesn’t I suppose. My mood has been tossed around like a buoy in a hurricane and still hasn’t really settled down. On with the news.

Went to dentist and had a root canal and a couple of fillings. Ow. Got a letter from the hospital telling me when I get my wisdom teeth out (July). Ow. My brother decided last Sunday to enquire about laser eye surgery with Ultralase. He had that done on Friday. OW. He seems to be recovering ok and doesn’t need his glasses anymore :D.

Got my new glasses, Carrera, they look cool (but maybe not on me :p). Went into Nodnol on Thursday for the Mel C concert, it was ok although I thought the band were loud to the point of distorting the sound, likely I’m getting old. The support band were quite good, they go by the name of Countermine.

Went into London again yesterday with my brother for his 24hr check with Ultralase, then we went off to CEX and Forbidden Planet, got myself that Jessica Alba Sin City poster *phoar*, also Kevin Smith’s, Silent Bob speaks. My brother purchased about 10 books, non of which he could read because he wasn’t not allowed to strain his eyes (awww heh heh).

Purchased Guildwars about a week ago it is damn good, thoroughly recommended if you like DII. Do not think it is a traditional MMORPG, it isn’t and doesn’t try to be. If you go into it expecting that, you will be disappointed.

    Nice water effects!

Isn’t it pretty, I think it is one of the nicest looking games I have played. The lanscape design is at times awesome and never ugly. Has very nice water reflective effects too.

Mother is coming for a few days on Thursday, brother has one week check on Friday. Who knows what else could be happening.

One month till I fly, four weeks on Wednesday.
