Surly Wombat

The oscar nom’s are out and as usual its that “certain” type of film which gets the nod. This year the hype is around “Brokeback Mountain”, while I haven’t seen the film I’m sure its quite good. But is it really better than a film which appeals to the masses, simply because its features a story about two gay men?

The oscars is always about “worthy” and “decent” rather than good movies. I assume that is why they call it best “Film” rather than “Movie”. The last time a genre movie was up for the “big” gongs, it was Return of the King, which was only because the first two had failed to win anything. The oscar bods simply wanted to make sure they didn’t make the same mistake they did with the first star wars trilogy. Now that blip has passed we are back to melodrama and actors playing roles which are “brave” since they may have a negative impact on their “bank”.

I can’t wait for the time when playing a gay man won’t be seen as an amazing feat, or portraying a disabled person won’t practically automatically give you a nomination. When these things go unnoticed then perhaps the Academy will really be openminded.

A long time ago the oscars held interest for me, now I have learnt better. Bring on the MTV movie awards.

Time for a diary type entry I suppose, I’m sporting a new hair cut, went to the dentist last week. The Parent arrives tomorrow for the week before I fly, she wants to make sure I pack properly :D. Things are shaping up well for the trip.

Grumble of the moment has to be with Orange, who provide no support what so ever if you can’t get MMS working on a unlocked phone moved from another carrier. Unable to provide even the generic settings required and telling me to go the phone manufactures website to find settings for Orange services.

I find it astounding that the companies go to such efforts to gain customers (subsidising handset cost etc) and then make so little effort to keep them.

So yeah, 1 week and 1 day! Wooo, strewth, blimey, crikey! (sorry kitteh).

ne1 man dissin dis 4ne has a serious prob wit their brain dis is da top notch n da market. at d mo u cnt get ne beta. der iz no competition wit dis 4ne its a livin mechanism itz cool… i wud giv mor dan 5 *’s if it waz poss. i wud reccomend 2 ne1….go 4 it!!!!

I especially like the mispelt was.

How can it be so easy to upset the ones you love? Am I missing an internal warning hooter to tell me when I just need to calm the f*ck down?, take a minute and actually use my brain for a few seconds. I think I must have been sick the day they taught self control at school.

I’m sure someone has said this before, but the trouble with free speech is that even idiots get a voice. As I was wandering around some blogs I came across some horrendously racist and intolerant ones (I’m not linking to them, maybe the children will get tired if no one comes out to play with them), if there is something that really pisses me off it’s “isms”.

I really wouldn’t be surprised that in 50 years people will be categorized by their DVD encoding region, “Damn them onees coming over here with their early release dates and stealing our wimmin!” That makes about as much sense as most “isms”.
