Empire movie votes, and top ten time!
Friday, August 1st, 2008Empire magazine is running a “best 500 movies ever” vote. They ask for the top ten, and since its a suitably “bloggy” type of thing to do I’m also putting mine up here.
- Star Wars
Sometime I might say why they are what they are :).

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008![]()
Went off to see Cloverfield tonight, and while the film is good, I can’t give a proper opinion since I went with my brother and he got struck by “Cloverfield flu” about an hour in. While it didn’t strike me so hard, some sequences were pushing the limit on my queasy-scale, and not knowing how long was left I wasn’t about to let my brother sit on the odeon sofas indefinitely.
For people who don’t know what I’m referring to, the film was made to give the impression it was filmed by an amateur with a camcorder, complete with hand held shake. When in a cinema, that can be one hell of a big shake. Frankly I think they pushed it a little too far. Who knows, this could be the first film to get a “Special Not-as-shaky” dvd edition. Although I doubt the effect is quite so severe on a small screen.

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006Oscar smoskar
Friday, February 10th, 2006The oscar nom’s are out and as usual its that “certain” type of film which gets the nod. This year the hype is around “Brokeback Mountain”, while I haven’t seen the film I’m sure its quite good. But is it really better than a film which appeals to the masses, simply because its features a story about two gay men?
The oscars is always about “worthy” and “decent” rather than good movies. I assume that is why they call it best “Film” rather than “Movie”. The last time a genre movie was up for the “big” gongs, it was Return of the King, which was only because the first two had failed to win anything. The oscar bods simply wanted to make sure they didn’t make the same mistake they did with the first star wars trilogy. Now that blip has passed we are back to melodrama and actors playing roles which are “brave” since they may have a negative impact on their “bank”.
I can’t wait for the time when playing a gay man won’t be seen as an amazing feat, or portraying a disabled person won’t practically automatically give you a nomination. When these things go unnoticed then perhaps the Academy will really be openminded.
A long time ago the oscars held interest for me, now I have learnt better. Bring on the MTV movie awards.
Clerks 2 Teaser
Wednesday, January 11th, 2006As a avidly annoying movie buff I’m very excited by the prospect of a sequal to Clerks, so obviously I’m going to pimp the movie at any and every opportunity on my own personal webspace.
Once such opportunity is when Mr.Smith releases a teaser. Go now, watch it!.
Hyperdrive
Sunday, January 8th, 2006Hyperdrive is currently being blast all over BBC2, massive amounts of trailers and other such gubbins saying watch this, saw the 5 minute preview on Friday and I’m hoping for the best.
Silent Bob Returns
Monday, January 2nd, 2006Silent Bob Returns is a psuedo trailer for a new film that doesn’t exist, using the Superman Returns trailer as a base inter cutting with images of Silent bob. Takes a while to load but its very funny if you are a fan.
