Tides of Darkness

I’d heard about DOSBox of course, but I didn’t realise how good it is. It was really straight forward to set up - easier in fact than dos was back in the day. Get this - war2 found my sound card first try!!. I’ve got buckets of games and it’s nice to be able to dust them off.. now I just need to find my Syndicate Wars CD.

April fool

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Here we are in April, I seem to have fallen off the blogging log as it were but hopefully will get back to it. March seemed to be pretty full of aches and illness on my part. My bad back made a unwelcome return just after I managed to lose the cold I had aquired and those two things seemed to knock me for six.

On the gaming side Elder Scrolls 4 is excellent, even if I have to play it at 800×600. It is likely to be keeping me quiet for some time.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and hello Mum!

Where is Sperry?

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

I was poking around, looking for information on Petroden and what happened to others from Westwood Studios after it got canned by EA. This obviously led me on a search for Brett Sperry, the guy who was most important behind C&C. While looking I came across this old interview. I find it interesting as he talks about the fact that at one time he wanted to make Red Alert feature Nazi’s and be set during WW2. Apparently when he pitched it the idea was canned by the publishers. Now it seems every second game is a WW2 one. Time moves fast in the gaming industry. The whole interview is here.

The hunt for Sperry continues.

I’m a fan of Grand Theft Auto, like most people. This is old news, but really I’m posting this here so I can find the link easily again for myself should I need it :D. Rockstar have got GTA and GTA2 available for free legal download from their website at Rockstar Classics. This is a goodthing®.
